So after asking an equal amount of 5 boys and 5 girls each a variety of questions about music video’s we collected some qualitative and quantitative data which we were able to analyse.
1. Firstly I was able to put the results of some questions into a chart to represent the data. It was clear to see that there was a continuous trend in answers to this question. Over half of the people we asked said they preferred to see a music video which matched what was being sung. They like music videos that have a purpose and meaning to them. Therefor perhaps it’s fair to say that a narrative based music video will be more appealing to our audience as with a narrative we will be able to tell represent a story with an in-depth meaning.

2. With regards to the data collected in this question, the answers were very much split and there was not a common pattern. Some people liked to watch music video’s where as some just were not interested at watching them at all. I think looking back at this data as a group, we need to make sure we produce a video that will be eye catching, making sure everybody wants to watch it and they will not be bored. I think that the common factor with these people who answered no to this question is because they found the videos boring and a slight disappointment to the song. So to ensure this does not happen to us we have to make sure the song is recognised in the video.
4. Over half of the people we asked stated that they wouldn’t mind giving an acoustic version of their favourite song a listen too. Most people would not completely rule it out. Surprisingly this was very good because of the huge range of genres the same people stated was their favourites. Because of the results we got here, we think that using an acoustic based song will be appealing to the majority of our target audience as 6 out of 10 would definitely listen to them.
Secondly there were a few questions which we asked that I was not able to put into a chart as there was a huge variety answers given.
1. What is your favourite band or artist?
From the answers given to this question I was unable to define a common theme as answers ranged from the pop artist Taylor swift to rappers like Kanye west. This proves that there is not one leading artist or band and that there is room in the music industry for many other artists. This is good because we know that we will be able to produce a music video that firstly won’t be compared to any other original or similar video and secondly will be popular.
2. What is your favourite music video?
The boys and girls we asked here all bar one had a favourite music video. These results re assure us that people still want to watch music videos and will spend time to look up a video and watch it for entertainment. Hopefully our music video will be as popular as some of the favourites stated by the Individuals we asked. Most of the Videos which were said are narrative based. This shows that people are automatically attracted to watch a narrative based video and are likelier to watch it again. Some of the favourites are videos such as we are never getting back together, by Taylor swift and 3005 by Childish Gambino.
3. What qualities do you look for in a music video?
There was a common theme with regards to the answers given to this question. The most common quality looked for in a music video was an eye catching story line. This is definitely a quality we will have to keep in mind when planning the story line to our video as we want it to be popular and watched by many. Additionally one person said that he admired the camera techniques in music videos. This is very interesting as it’s not something most people pick up on. I think it will be very important to take this opinion on board when we are filming because camera techniques keep the running of the video smooth, giving continuity. This will keep the video easy for viewers to watch.
