The name of the album that our song features on by Jack Johnson is called 'In Between Dreams'. I like the name of this album as it gives me a lot of inspiration for digipak ideas, images and style.
I decided to start by looking at what people associate with the term 'dream' in order to inspire me as to the kind of theme I should go for. By simply typing into google images the word 'dream', I found a range of images:
I found that lot of the images were to do with the sky and clouds as people often refer to those that daydream as 'having their head in the clouds'. This gives me some ideas as to what sort of images I need to be looking into. This is also inspiration in terms of the colour scheme with a blue sky.
I then need to look at Jack Johnson as an artist. Through research, I have found that he is quite a laid back and quirky kind of artist due to his Hawaiian upbringing, love of surfing and musical talent. I want to be to reflect this side to him by creating something that has a simplistic side but also something that is unique and unusual at the same time. I want to create something that is different to your "typical style" digipak style and design. This way, the audience are more likely to remember the album because of it standing out resulting in further promotion of the artist.
I like the idea of opening the digipak and it revealing the CD using a "pop up" motion. This is a unique element that is not seen very often. This particular YouTube clip has inspired me for a 2 disk album to try.
These designs are slightly different in that they open outwards using a set of images. I like the idea of this opening almost like a gift as it seems a subtle way of holding a CD as people often have memories associated with buying an album.
I find another design on YouTube that I really liked the look of in that the digipak was made up of an envelope of Polaroids. This idea would relate to the lyrics from our song "shoebox of photographs with sepia-tone lovin".
This card was also quiet an interesting element from the vinyl digipak, thaking them for their purchase and giving them a voucher with a digital download token with a access code. I think this would be quite a good element for selling the product as people are more likely to buy the album if they here that they get a voucher inside.
